Do 1 Thing Campaign

Emergency Preparedness for Individuals

While the majority of people are aware of the importance of emergency preparedness, most do not make preparedness a priority. Often it is thought to be too overwhelming a task in our time-pinched lives. To encourage and assist residents in becoming prepared, Canton's Emergency Management office is pleased to share with you information on the Do 1 Thing Campaign.

The goal of the program is for residents to Do 1 Thing per month to increase their level of preparedness. This is an easy, financially affordable way to become better prepared. The first step (January suggestion) of the Do 1 Thing initiative is to develop a preparedness plan. Understand what puts you at risk from disasters and take steps in each subsequent month to reduce your risk.

In the following months residents will be urged to take steps towards preparedness by acquiring additional essential items such as water, non-perishable foods, medical and other supplies to be used in an emergency. Preparedness will also include creating a family communications plan and learning about emergency sheltering as well as other steps you can take to prepare. Steps will be promoted monthly to help residents build on their preparedness 1 step at a time.

Emergency Preparedness for Businesses

Do 1 Thing has developed a 12 month program to help you get your business ready by taking a small step each month. It is important that businesses start at month one, and go in order as each month builds on the previous steps. We highly encourage businesses to take advantage of this well thought-out.
