Items - Lost and Found

The Police Department will accept personal items found within the community. Department personnel will attempt to make contact with the owner, in the event one can be determined. If not, the property is logged and held by the department for a period of time as determined by department policy.

Anyone who has lost a personal item in the community may inquire if the item has been turned in to the Canton Police Department in person, or by calling the Property Clerk at 734/394-5432.

Animals - Lost and Found

If you've lost a pet, contact the Canton Public Safety Department at 734/394-5400 to inquire if it has been reported as found. The department maintains a list of all animals picked up, in order to assist with quickly uniting pet owners with their lost animals.

If you observe an animal that appears to be lost, stray, injured or otherwise in need of assistance, you are encouraged to contact the Canton Public Safety Department at 734/394-5400 for help.

Canton Public Safety Department contracts with the Michigan Humane Society in Westland to shelter lost and/or stray animals in the community. The Michigan Humane Society in Westland is open for pet retrieval Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Michigan Humane Society is located at 900 N. Newburgh Road in Westland; 734/721-7300.
